Abstract

Water pollution due to domestic waste is one of the environmental problems that often occur in residential areas, especially in areas with high population density and inadequate waste management systems. Household waste such as washing water, food waste, detergents, and sanitary waste that is discharged directly into waterways can degrade water quality and disrupt the balance of aquatic ecosystems. This study aims to examine the sources of water pollution derived from domestic waste and analyze pollution control efforts in residential areas. The research method used is a descriptive approach with data collection techniques through literature review and analysis of various scientific sources related to domestic waste management and water quality. The results of the study show that water pollution is mainly caused by direct disposal of household waste without adequate treatment, low public awareness, and limited waste management infrastructure. Pollution control efforts can be carried out through the implementation of domestic wastewater treatment systems, increasing public awareness in waste management, and government policy support in providing adequate sanitation facilities. With proper management and community participation, water pollution in residential areas can be controlled so that the quality of the aquatic environment is maintained.
